I asked to have my 60,000 miles reinstated for my failed trip to Brazil. After two replies saying they would reinstate my miles, the last reply from AAdvantage Customer Service says:

After additional review, we decline your request for reinstatement and
have forwarded your file back to Customer Relations who will respond
soon.
We appreciate your patience.
